Dates, entry fees and routes change every year. This page deliberately does not publish a date — a wrong one costs somebody a race they trained six months for. Confirm the current year's date, entry window, fee and course on the official organiser's website before you plan anything around it.

What kind of race it is

A cult event in western India. The course climbs almost continuously from Satara town into the hills, run in September when the Sahyadris are green and wet. Runners come for the difficulty and the scenery rather than for a time.

The course

A sustained climb of several hundred metres over the first two-thirds of the race. There is no version of this course that is flat.

Conditions

Monsoon: rain, mist, cool air and wet road. Pleasant to run in and hard on footing.

How to approach it

Do hill repeats for months, not weeks. Expect your finish time to be far slower than your flat half-marathon time, and do not be alarmed by it — everyone's is.

Distances offered
