What kind of race it is
Run through the forest and settlements of the Auroville township near Puducherry, largely on unpaved red-earth tracks rather than tarmac. There is no traffic and no city noise, and the event has a community feel that the big-city races cannot replicate.
The course
Undulating dirt and gravel tracks through plantation forest. Underfoot conditions vary from firm to loose sand.
Conditions
February on the Coromandel coast — the best weather of the year there, warm and dry with an early start.
How to approach it
Run in shoes with some grip and be ready for loose sections to slow you down. Do not expect a personal best; expect the nicest surface you will run a marathon on in India.
Distances offered
Category names and cut-off times vary between editions. The event is run by Auroville Marathon organising team — find their official site for the current year's details, and cross-check against the AIMS race calendar. This page does not link to an organiser URL it cannot verify.
